HYSA Players Code of Conduct

Play Hard. Play Fair. Represent HYSA with Pride.

Every HYSA player shares a responsibility to be a good teammate, show respect, compete safely, and demonstrate good sportsmanship. Our Player Code of Conduct sets clear expectations for how players should treat teammates, opponents, coaches, referees, and everyone who helps make youth soccer possible.

Player Code of Conduct

Coaches:  Please review this with your players at the first practice of the season.  Players should bring this home, review it with a parent/guardian, sign it, and return it to the coach at the next practice. 

• I will be a good teammate.  I will encourage my teammates, not put them down.  I will celebrate effort, improvement, and teamwork.  I will remember that everyone makes mistakes, and we get better by supporting each other.
• I will show good sportsmanship.  I will respect opponents before, during and after the game.  I will not trash talk teammates, opponents, referees, coaches or spectators.  I will participate in the pre-game handshake.
• I will use respectful language.  I will not swear or use inappropriate language at practices, games, or team events.  I will not use offensive, abusive, racist, sexist, threatening, or hurtful language.  Words matter, even when I am joking, frustrated, excited, or trying to be funny.
• I will respect coaches, referees, and the game.  I will listen to my coaches, respect referees, and play by the rules.  I will not argue with, yell at, threaten, or touch a referee.
• I will play safely and fairly.  I will play hard, but I will not try to hurt anyone.  I will not fight, threaten, bully, harass, or haze another player.
• I will represent HYSA with pride.  When I wear an HYSA uniform, I represent my team, my family, my coaches, and Hudson Youth Soccer.  I will help make soccer a place where every player feels welcome.

Consequences:  If a player does not follow this Code of Conduct, coaches and HYSA may take appropriate action based on the player’s age, the seriousness of the behavior, and whether it has happened before.  Consequences may include a conversation with the player and parent/guardian, sitting out part of a practice or game, missing a practice or game, referral to the HYSA Sportsmanship Committee or suspension from HYSA activities for serious or repeated violations.

HYSA has zero tolerance for referee abuse, fighting, threats, bullying, harassment, discriminatory language, or behavior that puts another person’s safety at risk.

Player Promise:  I promise to play hard, play fair, support my teammates, respect my opponents, listen to my coaches, respect the referees, and represent HYSA with good sportsmanship.

All players will be provided with a copy of this Code of Conduct at their first practice of the season, and will be required to bring it home, review with parent/guardian, and return an acknowledgement form signed by both the player and the parent/guardian at their next HYSA event.
