HYSA Grade 7/8 Boys Complete Historic Undefeated Season With NVYSL D2 Championship
Hudson Youth Soccer’s Grade 7/8 Boys finished their regular season with an unblemished 8-0 record. It’s an amazing accomplishment in and of itself, and something that players, coaches and parents took enormous pride in.
Those records meant nothing, however, when the Nashoba Valley Youth Soccer League held its NCup Division 2 postseason tournament this past weekend in Pepperell.
Hudson (8-0) earned the top seed and faced #4 seed Townsend-Ashby (TAYSA) on Saturday morning while #2 seed Berlin played #3 seed Pepperell.
The TAYSA squad featured many of the same players who handed Hudson its only loss one year earlier in the final regular season game before last year’s Grade 5/6 NCup playoffs here in Hudson.
TAYSA once again proved itself a worthy opponent, taking a 1-0 first-half lead. After a spirited halftime discussion, Hudson regrouped with a strong second half, scoring two unanswered goals for a 2-1 win.
That put Hudson into the final against Berlin, who defeated Pepperell 1-0 in their semifinal match.
Hudson and Berlin have always played each other tough. Hudson’s Boys 5/6 team beat Berlin during the regular season last spring. Berlin won the rematch in last year’s NCup playoffs on their way to the final, where they took second place.
Saturday’s game began with a brief downpour of rain, followed by a quick barrage of Hudson scoring to take a 2-0 halftime lead. Berlin came out strong to start the second half with a pair of quick goals to even the score at 2-2.
Hudson had the final word this time around, however, scoring one last time for a 3-2 win to complete an historic 10-0-0 regular season with the NVYSL Division 2 Championship and NCup trophy as pictured below.
Congrats to the players, coaches and parents on a magical ending to a storybook season.
Go Hudson!
