HYSA New Coaches Procedures
Introduction
Welcome to HYSA and thank you for volunteering to be a head coach or assistant coach. We hope that coaching youth soccer
for HYSA will be a fun and rewarding experience! This page is a starting point for all new coaches and contains important
information that will get you started and ready to coach. After you read through this page please feel free to contact
any of the Age Group Coordinators at any time if you have any questions.
If you haven't already volunteered to coach the best way to do this is to check off the volunteer to coach box when you
register your child for soccer. You can also email the appropriate age group coordinator.
At HYSA we offer programs for kids age 5-18. Although there are many different age groups and levels for coaching purposes
and for these procedures we will break it down into the following 3 groups:

U8
U10-U19
The Small Fry and Advanced Small Fry Programs are for girls and boys ages 4-6 (turned 4 by July 31st).
The sessions are 8 weeks long on Saturdays from 9:00am-10:30am. The first 60 minutes will be a practice session with many
Fun games and drills. The last 30 minutes will be an informal scrimage. (small fry 3v3 Adv small fry 6v6).
The U8 program is for girls and boys in 1st and 2nd grade who are Under 8 years of age on July 31st of the fall season
This program is 8 weeks long. Practices are twice a week and all games are one Sundays. This program is a Co-Ed program that
plays it's games in an inmformal league with Stow and Maynard
The U10-U19 programs are for girls and boys that are over age 8 and under age 19 by July 31st of the fall season. This group of
programs plays in the Nashoba league. Practices are twice week. For more specificU10-U19 program information please see our HYSA Programs Page
Pre-Season Small Fry/Adv Small Fry and U8 Coaches
Prior to each season an HYSA Age Group Coordinator will contact you to confirm that you will be a head or assistant coach for that season. You will be asked for contact information including current phone number and email address. If your phone number or email address ever changes during the season please contact your age group coordinator to update your information.
At some point prior to the season starting the small fry and U8 coordinators will form the teams. I this point all coaches will need to fill out a CORI form online. Once you fill out the online form you must forward the email receipt you will receive from MYSA to the HYSA age group coordinator for the age group you are coaching. Also if you are not assigned an assistant coach .
Pre-Season U10-U19 Nashoba Coaches
Prior to each season an HYSA Age Group Coordinator will contact you to confirm that you will be a head or assistant coach for that season. You will be asked for contact information including current phone number and email address. If your phone number or email address ever changes during the season please contact your age group coordinator to update your information.
Prior to each season the coaches should request any equipment you will need. For new coaches you should request a complete equipment bag. Please fill out a equipment request as early as you can before the season starts.
At some point several months before the season starts HYSA will hold a team formation meeting. For the Spring season this meeting will be in Jan or Feb for the Fall the meeting is usually June or July. At this point the teams will be formed and head coaches and assistants should all be assigned. I this point all coaches will need to fill out a CORI form online. Once you fill out the online form you must forward the email receipt you will receive from MYSA to the HYSA age group coordinator for the age group you are coaching. Also if you are not assigned an assistant coach and you recruit a parent to be your assistant coach you must let the age coordinator know about it and have them follow the same procedure.
A couple of weeks before the season starts Nashoba will have a coaches meeting. This is mandatory for first year coaches and highly recommended for for all coaches. Shortly after that HYSA will have a pre-season coaches meeting. At this meeting you will receive your Nashoba packet which will consist of your official roster stamped by Nashoba and your referee cards. You will only receive one copy of your official roster. It is up to each coach to make copies of this roster. You will need to give the ref 2 copies of the roster for each game so you will need at least 16 copies, but it is better to make more. We do not have any other copies of this roster and it is not easy to get another copy from Nashoba. If you do not have a official stamped roster you will not be able to play.
